SUNSETS

Poetry by Calliah Bolosan | Grade 7

 My dad is an artist.

He paints the most beautiful paintings.

Shades of orange, tints of purple, splashes of red, spots of pink

All laid on the canvas so elegantly.

Tones blending so perfectly, almost as perfect as the feeling of bare feet hitting warm sand.

Colors complementing each other, oh so well.

His art goes beyond all aesthetic.

Always surprising me.

I enjoy admiring his paintings. I always seem to love them.

I’ve never hated one of his pieces– it seems impossible to.

They’re far too beautiful.

Setting my eyes on each of his canvases–

Inspecting every corner, color, shape, line.

Treating his art as a miracle.

Every feature carries immense meaning. Almost as if the art itself speaks to you.

And because of that

Whenever I feel lost.

Whenever I feel alone.

Whenever I feel un-alive.

I look up.

Admiring his work.

In hopes that I hear him through his art.

THE SAKURA TREE

Poetry by Ms. Elizabeth Frilles | Waialua High and Intermediate Teacher

The Sakura tree

Breathtakingly beautiful

Delicate flowers

Pink and white blossoms

Attract bees and butterflies

The symbol of Spring

Time of renewal

For nature’s life is fleeting

With abiding hope

Precious memories

And youthful days in Japan

Enduring friendships
